Let's do good things with data
TrackSocial & Wellbeing
Smart Data Research UK will run this session to explore the transformative potential of smart data research and encourage researchers from a range of academic disciplines to use smart data as part of their work.
Smart data is generated every time we engage with the digital world. It’s incredibly valuable as a resource for understanding society and helping to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges, from preventing diseases to combating disinformation, reducing geographic disparities, or tackling climate change.
Smart data can be complex and difficult to work with. But we are building on strong foundations. Our funder, the Economic and Social Research Council (part of UK Research and Innovation), has been investing in smart data for 10 years, and as a new data infrastructure programme we’ll be investing in and supporting six new data services for UK researchers, that we can explore with RSS delegates.
Our session may also cover other aspects of our programme :
- access to open datasets that don’t contain any personal or sensitive data
- controlled access to protected, safeguarded and secure data
- research funding opportunities
- training
- building public trust
- legal and ethical considerations
