Webinar: Launch of the Economic Wellbeing Explorer

17 Nov 2025

We were delighted to host a webinar for the launch of the Economic Wellbeing Explorer, a pioneering data and insight platform designed to shine a light on the drivers of economic wellbeing.

Originally developed to explore Scotland’s economic resilience, the Explorer now expands to cover the whole of Great Britain. For the first time, decision-makers, researchers, and communities can access a unified picture of wellbeing at both local and national levels, bringing together trusted data to support inclusive growth and better policy outcomes.

At this launch event, CEO of Smart Data Foundry Dougie Robb and Rui Cardoso, Head of Public Sector Engagement, introduced the Explorer’s new capabilities, demonstrating how it can be used to understand challenges and opportunities across regions, and highlighting its potential to support evidence-based policymaking, investment, and community action.

This launch marks a step change in our collective ability to connect data with impact, enabling more informed choices about the future of prosperity and wellbeing across Great Britain.

Powered by anonymised insights from over five million NatWest Group current accounts, combined with official statistics and open data sources, the Explorer provides an unparalleled view of economic life across Great Britain. This unique dataset captures real patterns of income, spending, and financial resilience, enabling a richer understanding of how people and places are faring. By transforming these complex data streams into clear, actionable insights, the Explorer delivers a powerful evidence base for more effective policy, investment, and community action.
