Future action needed to address algorithmic bias

June 2022

Savina Kim, PhD Candidate for Edinburgh Futures Institute (Part of The University of Edinburgh)

What if we could build fairness into our business at the very core? Smart Data Foundry is committed to building fairness into everything we do but we need help to make sure that we are not biased in our execution.

One of Edinburgh Futures Institute PhD Candidates and Smart Data Foundry collaborator Savina Kim has recently written a whitepaper that has a critical call to action to address fairness and bias concerns in algorithm-assisted decision making. Savina’s whitepaper proposes the development of a fairness management framework, beginning with a Fairness Health Check, that can be used as a starting point to evaluate Machine Learning Systems and determine whether fairer outcomes can be achieved.
